The Skunk Corydoras (Corydoras arcuatus or Hoplisoma granti) is a peaceful, bottom-dwelling freshwater catfish known for its distinctive black and white coloration.
Key Features
- Appearance: The fish has a pale, white, or nearly translucent body with a bold, arched black stripe that runs from its mouth, through the eye, along its back (dorsal ridge), to the base of its tail fin.
- Size: Skunk Corydoras are small, typically growing to an adult size of about 2 to 2.5 inches (5 to 6 cm).
- Behavior: They are highly social, active, and non-aggressive fish that thrive when kept in groups of at least six individuals. They spend most of their time foraging in the substrate.
- Habitat: Native to the upper Amazon River basin in South America, they prefer slow-moving, well-oxygenated waters with soft, sandy substrates that protect their sensitive barbels.
- Diet: As omnivores, they primarily feed on detritus, small invertebrates, and plant matter in the wild. In an aquarium, they should be offered a varied diet of high-quality sinking pellets, flakes, and occasional live or frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp.
