The longfin panda corydoras (Corydoras panda) is a small, peaceful, and social freshwater catfish known for its distinctive black and white coloration and elegant, flowing fins. It is a popular bottom-dwelling scavenger in community aquariums.
Key Characteristics
- Appearance: They have a light pink or off-white body with three prominent black markings: a stripe through the eyes (resembling a panda), a spot on the dorsal fin, and a spot at the base of the tail. The longfin variant has selectively bred, elongated dorsal and pectoral fins that enhance its graceful movement.
- Size: Adults typically grow to be about 2 to 2.5 inches (5 to 6.3 cm) in length.
- Temperament: They are very peaceful, animated fish that thrive when kept in schools of at least six or more individuals. They are excellent for community tanks with other non-aggressive fish.
- Habitat & Diet: As bottom dwellers, they spend most of their time foraging along the substrate using their sensitive barbels. They are omnivorous and require a varied diet of high-quality sinking pellets, flakes, and frozen or live foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp. A fine sand or smooth gravel substrate is recommended to protect their barbels from injury.
- Origin: While the standard panda cory is native to the upper Amazon basin in Peru, the longfin variant is a tank-bred trait.
