The Black Pearl Harlequin Rasbora is a dark-bodied color variant of the popular Harlequin Rasbora (Trigonostigma heteromorpha), known for its peaceful nature and schooling behavior. It is a popular, yet small, freshwater fish in the aquarium hobby.

Physical Characteristics
  • Coloration: Unlike the original species' reddish-orange body, the "Black Pearl" variant has a body that is a deeper purple to black. It retains the signature, wide, roughly triangular black patch on its rear half, which in this variant can appear even more prominent against the dark body.
  • Size: This fish is a dwarf species, typically growing to a maximum length of about 1.5 to 2 inches (4-5 cm).
  • Sexual Dimorphism: Females are generally larger and have rounder bodies than males. The black patch in males is cited as being slightly more rounded at the bottom.

Behavior and Habitat
  • Temperament: They are a very peaceful, active, and social fish, thriving when kept in schools of six or more individuals.
  • Environment: They are ideal for community tanks, especially those with plenty of live plants and subdued lighting, which mimics their natural blackwater stream habitats in Southeast Asia.
  • Diet: The Black Pearl Harlequin Rasbora is an omnivore and readily accepts a varied diet of quality flake or micro-pellet food, supplemented with occasional live or frozen treats like bloodworms or brine shrimp.

Care Level
This fish is considered easy to care for, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists, provided the tank is fully cycled and water parameters are stable.
