The albino corydoras (Corydoras aeneus 'albino') is a popular, peaceful freshwater catfish known for its pale pink or white body and distinctive red eyes. It is an albino variant of the common bronze corydoras.

Key Characteristics
  • Appearance: They have a striking appearance due to a lack of pigmentation, resulting in a light body with transparent fins and bright red eyes. They possess whisker-like barbels around their mouth, used for foraging in the substrate.
  • Size: Adult albino corydoras typically reach an average length of 2.5 to 3 inches (6-7.5 cm).
  • Behavior: They are highly social, active, and peaceful bottom-dwellers that thrive when kept in groups of six or more to feel secure and exhibit natural schooling behavior. They are constantly scavenging the substrate for food.
  • Habitat & Care: Originating from the Amazon river basin in South America, they are a hardy and adaptable species, making them suitable for beginner aquarists. They require a soft, sandy substrate to protect their delicate barbels and appreciate a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots.
  • Diet: As omnivores, they readily accept a varied diet of high-quality sinking pellets, as well as live or frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp.
  • Unique Feature: Like all Corydoras species, they can occasionally dart to the surface to gulp air, an adaptation that allows them to survive in poorly oxygenated water conditions.
