General De-Worming

General deworming

The reason there are so much conflicting advice on dewormering Discus is most worming medications work against certain worms but not others. Some medications are very harsh while others are mild. Pranzi is is a very well tolerated medication and great against tapeworm but not against others like Capillaria
Fenbendazole and fluebendazole are also good wormers.
Metronidazole is for Flagellates ( very common)
For general worming I would recommend

Pranzi Pro by Hikari – use in the water
Dose according to the product instructions
Hikari Usa AHK73254 Prazipro for Aquarium, 4-Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004LOBGYA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_OK5azb8EGMR95

Along with Prazipro in the tank water.
Make the following mix and either add it to the beef heart mix (make a new batch and label it medicated for this time and future use) or mist it onto my discus food pellets:
1/2 cup tank water
3 tbs epsom salts
2 packets API General Cure Powder Packet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007R5M7V6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_FM5azbXB6GS4K

Stir well and pour into a spray bottle …mist any pellet food (not flakes) spread out onto a foil lined cookie sheet, let dry a few hrs and then use
OR stir this mixture directly into your beef heart mix and you will have medicated food on hand
The key is to get Metro into the gut….I use this medicated food for all feedings for 2 weeks then fast and observe the fish for 4 days then treat again for 2 weeks to insure you kill the life cycle of the internal parasites.

If you have not any improvement after the first treatment use fenbendazole also in the food.

to increase palatability and reduce loss of medication to water. treat for a 3 day duration with water changes and filtration between treatment.

Always remember that QT tanks need large daily water changes. They should be bare bottom, have a cycled (loaded with nitrifying bacteria) sponge filter and a good quality air pump and heater
NEVER expose discus to Ammonia and nitrite in a
Unstable QT tank. Control it with water changes.
Any ammonia and nitrite even in the slightest quantity can bring on disease.
